Kdyby, kdyby … Obyvatelé Etarei, města snů uprostřed venkovské přírody, by dojížděli za prací rychlodráhou Alweg, noviny a teplé rohlíky by dostávali do bytu potrubní poštou a o víkendech by si za humny zahráli golf. Kde? Kousek za Prahou.

Okrouhlo, Záhořany, Libeř, Libeň a Zvole. Pět malých obcí na jižním okraji Prahy, které si dodnes zachovaly svůj vesnický charakter. Většině z nich se zatím vyhnula i takzvaná satelitní výstavba a tak vrcholem obecních tužeb zůstávají prozaické záležitosti jako je kanalizace nebo lepší autobusové spojení s metropolí.

Všechno mohlo být jinak. Vesničané ze zmíněných obcí se už před čtyřiceti lety mohli stát prvními obyvateli Etarei, města snů, které by se rozkládalo na jejich pozemcích. Za prací do Prahy by dojížděli rychlodráhou Alweg, noviny, léky a ještě teplé rohlíky by dostávali ráno až do bytu potrubní poštou a o víkendech by si mohli zahrát kriket a golf. Nestalo se. Možná bohužel, možná bohudík.

Brožuru pojednávací o satelitním městě Etarea objevila nedávno v Archivu hl. města Prahy Kateřina Jíšová, která se jako badatelka zabývá historií pražských sídlišť. Na první pohled ji udivil rozsah i hloubka studie, stejně jako nezvykle vysoký počet odborníků z nejrůznějších oblastí vědy a techniky, kteří se na jejím vzniku podíleli.

„Viděla jsem už projekty řady pražských sídlišť, ale tohle bylo něco mimořádného,” tvrdí archivářka. Když o Etarei referovala vloni na podzim na mezinárodní konferenci o vývoji velkoměst od konce války do pádu komunistických režimů v Evropě, byli projektem udiveni i zahraniční historici. Překvapilo je, že se tak propracovaný a nadčasový projekt zrodil už před čtyřiceti lety právě v komunistickém Československu. „Autoři studie určitě museli mít volnou ruku, když svoji představu spojení člověka s přírodou prostřednictvím satelitního města dotáhli do takových detailů,” domnívá se Jíšová.

Plasmastudio has recently won the competition to develop the building and landscape design for Horticultural Expo in Xi’an, China. The project comprises 15,000 exhibition hall building, a series of conservatories, a 37Ha park around an artificial lake as well as ancilliary buildings. The next stages of development will take place during the next months with the collaboration of Plasmastudio (buildings) and Groundlab (landscape urbanism).
Xi’an is a city based in thousands of years of ancient culture. As the home of the Terra Cotta Army and the beginning of the Silk Road, Xi’an has claimed its place in China’s eternal history. In this tradition, Flowing Gardens is a harmonic relationship between Xi’an’s wondrous past and its exciting future; horticulture and technology; landscape and architecture. Flowing Gardens enhances the inherent beauty of Xi’an by intensifying the characteristics of the existing fabric while creating a self-sustainable landscape for the future.

Flowing Gardens begins from a single line — an axis extends from the Gate to the Greenhouse, traveling through the East and West Hills and over the lake, while extending into many sinuous paths, creating a network of intermingling circulation, landscape and water. Much like the legendary Silk Road, Flowing Gardens is connectivity, circulation, rejuvenation, and elegance.

For Hargreaves Associates, the sweeping monumentality of agricultural landscapes finds expression through their signature style — the braided topography — by which all activities and spaces are organized. 

From their project statement:

We have approached the site by examining the site-specific qualities that make it a beloved destination today: expansive fields, sweeping views, spectacular sunsets, rolling hills, nestled lakes, extensive walking trails, equestrian trails and events, farm lands, hands-on learning about agriculture and nature, a country drive, and bottomland forests. There is much at Shelby Farms Park to be discovered. 

We have integrated those elements by creating a multi-layered design that intertwines the various existing areas of the park. A network of landscape and movement systems provides for recreation and access by foot, by bike, by horse, by shuttle…and by boat. A system of beautiful lakes that reflect the memorable Memphis sky allows a connection to the river — both real and metaphorical as well as a whole new movement system on the site.…

Whereas Field Operations makes use of the grid and compartmentalization, Hargreaves Associates prefers terraforming.

The project explores how new forms of habitable infrastructure might be extrapolated from a geopolitical agreement – in this case, materializing architectural form from the legal interstices of the Oslo Accords.
The result is a fantastic example of architectural speculation: genuinely massive – and impossibly cantilevered – bridges used as transport links, aerial housing, and skyborne agricultural complexes, all in one.

the danish architects at BIG (bjarke ingels group) have teamed up with the swedish landscape firm NOD for their latest project in stockholm. the project is a revamping of slussen, one of the busiest intersections in downtown stockholm. one of the city’s key goals for the project was reconnecting the historic gamla stan district with södermalm. however the project wasn’t as simple as building a bridge because the slussen is used by cyclists, pedestrians and drivers as well as housing the subway, train and connections to boat lines. the architects needed to find a unifying structure, which could house all these facilities in a layered approach. despite heavy traffic, the new slussen will house rest areas and create a public space on the upper most level. all the levels are connected through ascending a descending ramps, allowing people to move freely between the levels.
