Kurokawa v samém centru Tokia nedaleko slavné nákupní třídy Ginza navrhl obytnou budovu, která se skládá ze dvou částí: první tvoří dvojice železobetonových sloupů, uvnitř kterých je veškerá infrastruktura domu a výtahy,a 140 prefabrikovaných kapslí, které byly vyrobeny v továrně i s vnitřním vybavením a na místě zavěšeny (každá visí samostatně) ve 14 úrovních. Každá kapsle skrývá miniaturní obytný prostor 2,3 x 3.8 metrů velký, v němž nechybí vestavěná toaleta, sprcha i kuchyňka. Součástí vybavení byla mimo jiné vestavěná lednička, TV souprava a magnetofon.

od 12.2 .2009 probíhá v prostorech Uměleckoprůmyslového muzea v Brně expozice ohýbaného nábytku 1. poloviny 20. století.

Moravská galerie v Brně vlastní největší institucionální sbírku ohýbaného nábytku v České republice. Výstava představí nábytkové kusy nejen z této sbírky, ale také vybrané kusy z majetku soukromých sběratelů.

Objevení výroby nábytku z ohýbaného bukového dřeva patří k největším událostem v nábytkářství. Celou druhou polovinu 19. století byl vývoj v rukou Michaela Thoneta a jeho synů. Kolem přelomu 19. a 20. století však dochází ke změně, ohýbaný nábytek začíná stále víc zajímat také architekty a designéry a nastává nová éra. Vzájemný protiklad použití progresivní
technologie na výrobu nábytku historizujících tvarů vyprovokoval jako prvního Adolfa Loose a vznik židle pro Café Museum ve Vídni otevřel možnosti vzájemné komunikace firmy
a profesionálního návrháře. Firma, která ji zahájila, byla Jacob & Josef Kohn, a stala se tak hybatelem událostí v oboru před první světovou válkou. Na návrzích nábytku pro mezinárodní výstavu v Paříži v roce 1900 už firma Jacob & Josef Kohn spolupracovala s žákem vídeňské Uměleckoprůmyslové školy Gustavem Sieglem. Hned po něm následovala spolupráce s tvůrci kolem Wiener Werkstätte jako byli Josef Hoffmann nebo Koloman Moser. Otto Wagner navrhoval posléze i pro fi rmu Gebrüder Thonet a po něm Otto Prutscher a Jan Kotěra. Modernisté nastavili posun vývoje směrem k jednoduchosti, geometrii. Nový design podporoval i rozvoj technologií. Válečné události přinesly změny ve fungování obou hlavních výrobců nábytku. V roce 1917 fúzoval Kohn s firmou Mundus a roku 1925 vznikl další fúzí Thonet-Mundus. Nastolený trend spolupráce s architekty a designéry pokračoval. Vedle jmen vídeňských modernistů jako byli Josef Hoffmann nebo Gustav Siegel, který se stal vedoucím návrhářského ateliéru firmy Thonet-Mundus, se objevují Josef Frank, Ebenhard Kraus, Adolf G. Schneck, Hans a Wassili Luckhardtovi. Firma Thonet– Mundus na konci 20. let také rozšířila sortiment o nábytek z ohýbaných bezešvých kovových trubek. Použití technické novinky pro výrobu nábytku prosadili designéři německého Bauhausu, kteří s trubkou experimentovali už od roku 1923. Největší pozornost materiálu věnoval Marcel Breuer, který vytvořil celou řadu návrhů. Kovový nábytek se stal takovým fenoménem, že se jeho tvarosloví zpětně promítalo do konstrukce nábytku z bukového dřeva.

istambul based design studio antrepo design industry has created the ‘time tuner’ alarm clock. while the dial
on the front of the device may look like an old fashioned radio tuner, it is actually a clock represented on a
linear plane. instead of a radio the device has a built in mp3 player. this trick of the eye is a odd way to reuse
an old display system for a new means, the clock comes in white, black and metal finishes and runs on
batteries or plugs in.

creative industrial objects is a vienna based design studio. one of their designs is the mobile workstation 
‘ci desk’. the small cart is mounted on three wheels that allow it to be moved around. a variety of shelves 
and drawers provide storage like a tabouret, perfect for technology devices and desk supplies. 
the desktop slides out to allow the user to sit below it. when used with a laptop computer the desktop 
features a horizontal slide out mouse pad. the desk is made from metal and bent plywood.

Digital Workflow
The project renounces on the application of a structure in the traditional sense. Instead, the space is filled with a 3-dimensional lightweight-sculpture, solely based on minimal surface tension, freely stretching between wall and ceiling and floor.

The design and fabrication procedure uses state-of-the-art digital workflow; beginning with 3D computer modelling, that is engineered structurally before undergoing a process of computer controlled (CNC) material cutting and mechanical re-seaming.

The computer-model, based on the simulation of complexity in naturally evolving systems, feeds directly into a production-line of sail-making-software and digital manufacturing.

The product shows a new way of digital workflow, enabling the generation of space out of a lightweight material that requires minimal adjustments onsite to achieve a complete installation in an extremely short time.

Sustainability
LAVA’s process of optimized minimal surface design and CNC (computer numeric code) fabrication technology allows the sculpture to reveal a new dimension in sustainable design practice.

Fulfilling the sustainable agenda of the venue, the work succeeds in its quest for optimum efficiency in material usage, construction weight, fabrication and installation time, while at the same time achieving maximum visual impact in the large atrium space.

The pavilion is easily transportable to any place in the world; can be quickly installed, and is fully reusable.

Fabrication
The sculpture materials consist of a double stretch, 2 way woven fabric that is mechanically attached to specially designed aluminium track profiles. Each profile is suspended from above, and to the side, on 2mm stainless steel cabling.

Concept
Since the 1970’s, with Frei Otto’s soap-bubble experiments for the Munich Olympic Stadium, naturally evolving systems have been an intriguing area of design research; something that hasn’t been lost on the team and their fascination with new building typologies and naturally developed structures.

The installation is a ‘Minimal Surface’ that consists of a tensioned Lycra material, digitally patterned and custom-tailored for the space. Five sides of the sculpture reach out to carefully hover just off the main interior atrium of the Customs House above the model of the city.

The lightweight fabric design follows the natural lines, contours and surface-tension of the fabric. The curves can be seen as the result of invisible bubbles that are translated into an organic 3-dimensional space.

While appearing solid, the structure is soft and flexible and creates highly unusual spaces within customs house, which come to life with projection and lighting.

Rising up to the top level restaurant, a vertical distance of almost 20m, the sculpture provides an intense visual contrast to the beautifully restored heritage interior of Customs House.

The Customs House ‘Media Wall’ is also activated with content detailing the process of design, engineering, fabrication and installation of the sculpture along with the impressive, recent design projects completed by LAVA across 12 video screens.

The whole installation is immersed in a soundscape by sound artist David Chesworth and graphic design by TOKO, and includes the latest 3D works by visual artist Peter Murphy.

Mobiliářové prvky z ruky Charlese Eamese má dodnes ve své nabídce kupříkladu vitra, ovšem nejedná se již o sklolaminát, ale plast.

The concept for the neil barrett flagship store is based on the minimal cut of the brand‘s fashion designand parallels its approach in using the same design parameters of fixed points, folding, pleating and cut outs. Rather than defining a single room or space, the design creates a circular passage allowing the customer to experience the space in multiple ways and interpretations. 

The design of the store plays with the complementary characteristics and the related dualism between male and female. This is echoed in the furniture design on both floors through the formal language and tactile quality of the materials used. The furniture piece on the ground floor is designed as a strong, masculine and dynamic form whilst the piece on the first floor enunciates femininity through more fluid contour lines. The first floor is designed in a more playful manner creating different zones that maintain the perspective view between them.

The furniture piece with a white smooth Corian ® by DuPont ™ finish is set against the raw fair faced concrete surface of the rest of the space. This is further accentuated through the contrast in color and finish of the white matt furniture finish against a black glossy floor. The final designs are shaped by 3D computer generated models.
these are processed by the manufacturer using further software to thermoform the sheet Corian ® into the 3D designed surfaces. A series of these surfaces are fabricated with joints, and were ready to be assembled into larger sections on site.
